Dad’s Day Demo

Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads.  I hope that you get some appreciation for all that you do. Today we demonstrate our love and devotion to our fathers.

My own Dad was a wonderful and gentle man.  He worked so very hard. Two jobs.  One during the week–out on the road as a traveling salesman.  And then he would come home and work weekends selling jewelry in the mall.  When he wasn’t working he was sleeping.  He was so exhausted from driving all week from town to town and then coming home and having to get dressed to work some more.

My Dad was one of the good guys.  He was extraordinarily patient and principled.  He had a great sense of humor and was born to be a salesman.  He was charming and he was a kind soul.  And that just came through from his sparkly blue eyes.

Never arrogant and rarely cross, my Dad was gentleman.  He opened doors for women and for men.  He reached out his hand to others and gave so many people their starts.  When I was a very young child he owned his own jewelry store.  And many people got their start in that store on 5th Ave in a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA.

My Dad was a hero in my eyes.  He helped others. He was kind.  He was gentle and strong at the same time.  He gave tzedakah of time and money. He cared deeply for his family and was a devoted husband and father.   He took care of his in-laws and his own parents.  He was one of those guys that believed in the power of love to heal and transform.  (Although he wouldn’t have used those exact words. But that would be the outcome nevertheless.)

I am grateful that I knew my Dad so well.  And that he guided me so well.  His kindnesses to me and his love for me was always apparent.  He will be dead for 16 years this coming August.  There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him and his beautiful smile and blue eyes.

If you are lucky enough to have a Dad still alive–Give some extra love this Father’s Day (TODAY)!.  And give thanks for all the support that a Father can bring to you.
