A Member of the Sisterhood 50

This week the Jewish Daily Forward came out with a new list.  Each year they list the Forward Fifty-the fifty most influential Jews in America.  I was honored to be part of the 2008 list.

Each year Newsweek magagzine also makes it list of the most  influential rabbis.  But for the last several years the list had very few women on it.   Very few.  Thus a new list was born.  The Jewish Daily Forward now listed its Sisterhood 50: The 50 most influential women rabbis in America.

I am honored to be on the list.  But let’s face it.  Lists don’t really tell the story of the many women rabbis who are in the trenches each and every day caring for their congregants, sitting bedside, working on college campuses and running Jewish organizations. Just like the Newsweek list didn’t really tell the tale of the many men who each day also work so hard to keep Jewish life fresh and inspired.

Being a rabbi is  a wonderful honor.  Working for the betterment of the Jewish people important work.  And I am grateful to be able to serve in this way.

Thank you Jewish Daily Forward for the honor.  Thanks especially to my congregation and community for the opportunity to make a difference and serve.

Shabbat Shalom
