USC Beats UCLA Again….

Yes USC beats UCLA again.  Not on the football field or even in basketball. This time in the US News and World Reports top College rankings  of 2011 that came out this weekend.   USC is ranked higher than UCLA. USC at 23 and UCLA at 25.   Click here to see the whole list.

They take into consideration a variety of things to make their rankings. These schools offer a full range of degrees from bachelor’s to doctorates. They are committed to research and development and the feel of campus life.  They look at activities, location, sports, value for money, and the ever important availability of financial aid.

As a Trojan myself I hope the UCLA bickering and whining will stop.  USC is a fine school.  It was a wonderful place to be an undergraduate with a great balance of everything one hopes for in a college experience. Since I was there in the early 80’s  USC has even strengthened its faculty, its endowment, its student body and created an even more dynamic university experience.  So all you Bruins stop.

The truth is UCLA is a fine school too.  It is hampered by being a public school in a state that is financially struggling.  And if we don’t fix our state and state education the UC system will continue to be impacted.

As a parent with a junior in high school this listing is really important to me.  We are beginning in earnest the college search.  And as much as I dream about the next generation of Trojans and hope that my son might walk on to Dedeaux field to play Trojan baseball, I know there will be many factors that will enter our decision-making.

In the meantime, I will relish that USC beat UCLA again!!!!
