A Prayer for Mother’s Day

.שְׁמַע בְּנִי, מוּסַר אָבִיךָ;וְאַל-תִּטֹּשׁ, תּוֹרַת אִמֶּךָ

Hear, my child, the instruction of your father, and forsake not the teaching of your mother; (Proverbs 1:8)

On this Mother’s Day weekend, we give thanks for our mothers who gave us life. We thank you Holy One of Presence for her gifts of heart and mind, time and talent. She tried her best with the tools she had—sometimes with great aplomb and at other times even when bone tired. She raised us up to become the people we are today.

On this Mother’s Day weekend honor our mothers and grandmothers, step mothers and those who have mothered us in our lives.  For those whose mothers have since passed on, we ask you Holy One to help us cherish her memory and for her soul to be at peace.  For those whose mothers were unable to mother, we pray for them to find the strength to seek out love and compassion and kindness.  For her imperfections that may have caused pain we ask for healing for her and for us.  For those whose mothers are still vibrant and alive with the flame of life, we pray for their health and well-being and long life. On this Mother’s Day weekend let our love and devotion to You be reflected in the way we treat one another and let us honor our mothers and heed her teachings, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
