It is humbling to have your work over the life of one’s career recognized for the impact you have made. I am always a little bit overwhelmed when I am noticed. I should be over it. I have been in the public eye for a long time now. I tend to keep my head down and just do the work: teaching Torah, building sacred community; seeking to overturn unjust laws and advocating for those who have no voice and my community. That is what I have always tried to do. Sometimes these kudos come at the end of a career. But I am not done yet!
That is why I am always surprised and perhaps a little bit embarrassed when the spotlight turns on me.
But I share with you a spotlight by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, the oldest Rabbinical organization in North America as we begin to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the ordination of women as Rabbis!
