THE GRADUATE

I was so honored to be part of the Rabbinic Leadership Initiative of the Shalom Hartman Institute. I just finished 3 1/2 years of intensive study with 27 other rabbis from all denominations.  We hailed from all over the U.S. and Canada.  Each Monday for three years we studied online with some of the leading Jewish scholars and thought leaders.  We covered ancient Jewish texts including Torah and Talmud and Jewish Philosophy and Theology as well as learning about Israel’s challenges in contemporary society, and the future of the Jewish community in North America. We read Hebrew poetry and we thought about bio-ethics in contemporary society.  And four the last four summers we were in residence at the Machon/Institute to learn together in person as well as a week each winter. And so a few weeks ago we graduated as Sr. Rabbinic Fellows of the Shalom Hartman Institute.  The study was a real privilege and funded I must say for me -by our Los Angeles Jewish Federation. I am very indebted for this great gift.

Here is a link to our graduation ceremony where I had the privilege of giving on of two speeches.
