What has become increasingly apparent in the week following the violence aboard the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara between so-called activists and Israeli naval seals is that there is a coördinated campaign worldwide to delegitimize Israel. It’s been going on for some time. But the Arab world is clear in their messaging. Israel has no right to exist.
For every pro-Israel tweet this week there have been 14 anti-Israel tweets.
But the situation is more complex than pro-Israel or pro-Palestinian.
It should be about justice and peace.
So let us assert some basic tenets:
Israel has a right to exist and exist as a Jewish nation.
Palestinians should be able to have their own nation.
Both countries should be able to live in peace and security.
The U.S. must do more to help the peace process along. Sen Mitchell is working diligently with the PA and Israel on the proximity talks and we as a community must support this!
So I am inviting you to join me on Sunday, June 6 at 2 pm at the corner of Wilshire Blvd and La Jolla in front of the Israeli Consulate at 6380 Wilshire Blvd for the rally to show solidarity for Israel at this time when the world is uniting to delegitimize Israel’s right to exist.
Israel must examine its actions and an inquiry must take place. But we as the Jewish community must not forsake the Jewish state too as some would do.
I hope to see you there. Balance. That is the word for the day.
