I guess if you are reading this–we are still here. I wrote about this several weeks ago. Click here. On May 21-a Christian fundamentalist radio station owner predicted the end of the world. And today is Sunday May 22. So I guess the Rapture didn’t happen. Jesus didn’t appear. And the sun set on May 21 and rose this morning without any hitches.
As the Jewish Bible teaches in Ecclesiastes 1:5 “The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises” and also in the book of Psalms (113:3)”From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of God is to be praised”.
Harold Camping predicted the world would end with a world-wide earthquake yesterday at 6 pm. Primarily caused by same-sex marriage and Gay Pride! But evidently he picked this date because he is certain that it is exactly 7,000 years from Noah’s flood. (We don’t have any proof that this was a real event) but perhaps he was there!
But since we are still here without his prediction coming true–it must be that we have reached a tipping point. Because last week we also learned that for the first time a majority of people support marriage equality. Read the Gallup Poll here. I am sure that is what held off the Rapture. More people than ever understand that gay and lesbian folks ought to be able to legally protect their families just as heterosexual folks do -through the civil institution of marriage.
So thank a gay person today for insisting upon marriage equality and gay pride. I am sure it saved the world!
