Bravo to the women of Saudi Arabia! They are beginning to challenge the laws that would keep them from driving. It is a crime for women to drive a vehicle there. But a few brave women have been defying this oppressive rule. There is nothing in Islam that forbids women from being behind the wheel. Many Muslim women I know here in the States drive their family cars and trucks without a problem. But in Saudi Arabia the oppression of women is part of the culture.
Saudia Arabia, America’s middle eastern oil ally, wants to be seen as a player in the world’s affairs. Yet this repressive regime would continue to keep women behind the harem doors.
Perhaps as part of the revolts of the Arab Spring-the women of Saudi Arabia will continue to feel empowered! Go girls.
